The Dog Owners Group for Park Access in Washington announced today the dog park in Washougal will close Nov. 1.

The Donald and Angeline Stevenson Off Leash Area is located near Bi-Mart, at 3003 Addy St.

A limited liability corporation, East Village Investors, purchased 15.97 acres of land, including the off leash area, the building occupied by Bi-Mart and some of the surrounding land, for $7.08 million, more than three years ago. Lone Wolf Investment LLC is the governing member of East Village Investors LLC.

Wes Hickey, owner of Lone Wolf, has previously said the property is part of the downtown planning area.

“We would be looking at master planning that, to be complementary to and cohesive with other downtown development,” he said. “Master planning will involve us doing an assessment of street layouts, potential demand and overall layout of the property.”

The dog park had been scheduled to close July 1, but Hickey allowed an extension to November.

“Mr. Hickey has been a very gracious and generous landowner,” said Mark Watson, a DOGPAW board member. “I wish he had more spots [for a dog park].

“We need a permanent home, [in Camas or Washougal],” Watson added.

He is hoping local land can be donated or sold to be used as a dog park. That could include land owned by private individuals.
