The Camas-Washougal Post-Record recently won the top award for General Excellence in its circulation division in the Washington Newspaper Publishers Association’s Better Newspaper Contest.

The local weekly newspaper also won a first place award for Best Lifestyle/Culture Section, for its “Passionate Pursuits” special section.

Published on June 23, 2015, this publication featured articles about the hobbies, interests and endeavors that Camas and Washougal residents are passionate about. Topics included brewing, wine making, art, community service and education.

In addition, Post-Record sports reporter Dan Trujillo received a first place award in the Color Feature Photo category, for a picture he took of Washougal High School valedictorian Paige Moore. The image was featured on the cover of the Post-Record’s annual Graduation special section published in June 2015.

The awards were announced during the 129th annual WNPA convention, held Oct. 13-15 in Wenatchee.

The contest recognizes excellence in editorial, advertising, photography, special sections, online work and service to communities by members of the WNPA.

This year, 59 newspapers competed in the contest, which assessed work produced between April 1, 2015 and March 31, 2016.

There were 302 advertising entries, 148 special sections entries, 1,256 news entries, 362 photography entries, 29 web entries, and 45 general excellence entries. The entries were judged by members of the New York Press Association.
