The West Columbia Gorge Humane Society dog shelter, in Washougal, has reopened to the public.

The shelter had been closed since Sept. 2, after three dogs showed symptoms of kennel cough. It reopened Sept. 20.

The three dogs are doing well now, and they are available for adoption, according to WCGHS Program Operations Manager Cathi Wright.

She said the three dogs were treated while they were under quarantine. The shelter was cleaned and disinfected.

According to the American Kennel Club, kennel cough is a respiratory disease that is highly treatable.

The quarantine of the dog shelter did not affect the WCGHS cat shelter, which is in a separate building. The cat shelter is open to the public daily, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The dog shelter is open Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The West Columbia Gorge Humane Society cat and dog shelters are located at 2675 and 2695 S. Index St., in the Port of Camas-Washougal Industrial Park.
