Eugene V. Downer
May 27, 1941 ~ March 30, 2019

Eugene V. Downer, 77, of Washougal, lost his battle with lung cancer Saturday, March 30, 2019. He peacefully slipped away surrounded by his close family.

Gene was born in Glendale, Arizona, on May 27th, 1941, to Jesse and Hazel Downer. He married Cheryl Diane McDonald, June of 1961. They were blessed with two children, Wendi (Downer) Davis and Wayne Downer.

In 1964, Gene and his family moved to Washougal. Gene started working at Tidland’s Corporation in February 1968. He worked in the Shaft department as a Computer Lathe Operator. He retired from Tidland’s after 37 years, only missing one day of work due to illness.

He loved anything outdoors and had so many loves and interests he shared with his family and friends. Throughout the years, he made an untold amount of memories with his precious family.

He leaves his wife, Cheryl of 57 years, daughter, Wendi, and son, Wayne, six grandkids and six great-grandchildren. In addition, he leaves behind two brothers, Lowell and Wayne Downer and two sisters, Marcella Ozanne and Melody Williard.

Two celebrations of life will be held at a later date; one in Washougal, and one in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, next season. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Havasu, 365 Lake Havasu Avenue, Lake Havasu City, Arizona 86403.

Carroll Copple McDaniel

Carroll Copple McDaniel died April 4, 2019, in Vancouver. She was 91.

Her memorial service will be held at St. John’s Presbyterian Church, 1206 N.E. Birch St., Camas, on Saturday, April 20, at 2 p.m. Sign her guest book at columbian.com/obits.

Andrea L. Willing Pina

Andrea Leigh Willing Pina, of Portland, died April 1, 2019, in Portland. She was 36.

Memorial donations may be made to National Association for Mental Illness at donate.nami.org or 3803 N. Fairfax Drive, Suite 100, Arlington, VA 22203. Straub’s Funeral Home & Columbia River Cremation handled the arrangements.

Sally A. Butterfield

Sally Ann Butterfield died April 1, 2019, in Washougal. She was 72.

A celebration of life will be held at noon, Saturday, April 13, at Camas Friends Church, 1004 N.E. Fourth Ave., Camas. A potluck will follow.

Memorial donations may be made in Sally’s name to the American Cancer Society, Camas Friends Church or the Columbia River Daylily Club. All County Cremation and Burial Services in Vancouver has been entrusted with arrangements.

Julian Amaya

Julian Amaya, of Vancouver, died April 8, 2019. He was 90.
