Washougal High School seniors Lauren Bennett and Amara Farah were recently named as the recipients of the 2021 Public School Employees Washougal Chapter $1,000 Len Bottemiller Memorial Scholarships.

The annual scholarships are awarded to applicants who submit letters of recommendation, a personal essay, transcripts and evidence of participation in the community.

“Lauren and Amara both exemplify the value of hard work, rigorous studies, and commitment to higher education and community service,” PSE scholarship committee chair and Washougal School District extended learning manager Lisa Young said in a news release. “They represent the best of Washougal students, and the PSE Washougal Chapter is honored to help them further their educational and professional goals.”

Bennett will attend California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California, major in aerospace engineering and work toward obtaining a position as a mission control specialist for a manned lunar mission.

“I am honored to receive this scholarship and thankful for the support it will provide toward college expenses,” she said in the news release.

Farah has been accepted to Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington, and will major in music with the goal of earning a doctor of philosophy degree and teaching music at the university level.

“I am so grateful to have received this scholarship and excited for what the future holds,” she said in the news release.
