The West Columbia Gorge Humane Society (WCGHS) has rescheduled its annual Hike on the Dike fundraising dog walk to Saturday, July 10.

WCGHS leaders postponed the event, which was originally to be held Saturday, June 26, due to excessive heat.

“After checking the hourly forecast and seeing that we (were) expected to see 81 degrees by 9 a.m., we consulted with our veterinarians,” according to a statement on the WCGHS’ website. “We all agreed that for the safety of all the pets and people involved, postponing the event is the right thing to do.”
