The Washougal School District was recently awarded a grant to purchase new books.

The district received $3,000, and the libraries at Washougal High School, Canyon Creek Middle School and Jemtegaard Middle School received $1,000 each from the Washington State Professional Educator Standards Board’s Bilingual Educators Initiative, a teacher academy program that recruits, prepares and mentors bilingual students to become future bilingual educators in Washington state.

The new books will support students in learning about career pathways in education, especially students from underrepresented backgrounds who might not have otherwise considered a profession in education.

During Teacher Appreciation Week (May 2-6), the libraries will feature the new career exploration books in displays available to students which showcase the profession of education.
