The Washougal School District is celebrating National Principals Month in October.

District superintendent Mary Templeton lauded the district’s principals during the Washougal School Board’s Oct. 12 meeting at Jemtegaard Middle School.

“Navigating through the last year-and-a-half has been one of the most challenging episodes of our professional careers, and without the stellar leadership of the principals at each one of our buildings, we would not be where we are today,” Templeton said. “They’ve had to come up with lots of different ideas on the fly. (They are) showing servant leadership, as well as empathy, compassion and creativity and authenticity.”

An annual collaboration between the American Federation of School Administrators, National Association of Elementary School Principals and the National Association of Secondary School Principals, National Principals Month is an opportunity for district leaders, elected officials, parents, students, teachers, staff members, school leaders, and communities to “celebrate and honor our incredible principals for their visionary leadership and tireless pursuit of success for each student,” according to its website.

The Washougal principals’ efforts have had a “significant impact on the success and well-being” of their students, according to a news release issued by the district.
