Registration is now open for the Washougal Schools Foundation’s 18th Annual Student Stride for Education run/walk event, which will take place on Saturday, May 21, at Washougal High School’s Fishback Stadium.

Race-day registration will open at 7:15 a.m., with the adult 5-kilometer run starting at 8 a.m. The event will also include runs for kindergartners and elementary-school students.

Title sponsor Discovery Dental will hold its popular “Beat the Doc Challenge,” which will reward runners with prizes if they can beat dentists Dave Stinchfield and Tom Stinchfield to the finish line. In addition, the event will feature a “Ninja Warrior” obstacle course.

Amberlin McBee, a sixth-grader at Jemtegaard Middle School, created the artwork for the event’s T-shirts and medals.

The event is the primary fundraising activity for the Washougal Schools Foundation, which is dedicated to enhancing the quality of public education and improving the lives of children in Washougal. All proceeds from The Student Stride for Education are used to fund projects in Washougal schools in the form of “Creative Classroom” grants and mini-grants for educators and teachers.

Participants can register individually or as teams at washougalschoolsfoundation.org/stride.
