The city of Washougal has appointed Ben Dean to its salary commission.

The Washougal City Council approved the appointment during its meeting on Monday, April 10.

Dean currently works as a senior director of network strategy for FLEXE Inc., a Seattle-based company that delivers technology-powered omni-channel logistics programs. He previously worked for Gilt Groupe, a direct-to-customer international ecommerce business; Steve and Barry’s, a New York-based company that specializes in college, celebrity-branded, and casual lifestyle apparel and accessories; and Commercial One Financial, a New York-based boutique financial services firm.

“My educational background in economics and accounting should deliver the academic basis on which our town makes salary decisions,” he wrote in an application letter. “In addition, my practical experience in running multi-million dollar supply chains has given me plenty of practice in determining salaries and negotiating contracts in a real-world environment.

“More importantly, on a personal level, moving to Washougal has meant a return to my home (I grew up in Eugene and my wife went to school in Seattle), and our first ever home purchase. My family intends to go all-in with our investment in our new, and likely final, hometown of Washougal. We’re fully invested in the success of our community, and I would like to live that investment by contributing my unique skills to our community organizations. I feel that I can deliver great things for Washougal, specifically for the salary commission.”

The City is also seeking three Washougal residents to join its art commission, “with emphasis on a student and an educator,” according to its website.

The successful candidates will serve as the city’s primary resource in matters of public art and culture; identify and actively encourage the development and sustainability of arts in the city; and advise policy makers on important issues and initiatives, the website states.
