A Camas elementary school principal has been honored by the Association of Washington School Principals (AWSP).

Cathy Sork, principal of Dorothy Fox Elementary School, has been named the AWSP’s 2024 Washington State Elementary Principal of the Year.

Each year, the AWSP honors two outstanding principals in Washington — one for elementary and another for secondary schools.

Sork’s recognition highlights her exceptional contributions to education, her unwavering devotion to student success, and her leadership excellence at the elementary level, according to a news release announcing the 2024 principal of the year recipients.

“Dorothy Fox Elementary and the entire Camas School District have long benefitted from Dr. Sork’s innovative leadership and dedication to her students,” said Camas School District Superintendent John Anzalone. “She leads with her heart every day. This recognition by the AWSP is well-deserved and speaks to her positive impact on our community.”

“(Sork’s) commitment to educational excellence has always been evident in her approach at Dorothy Fox Elementary,” said CSD Elementary Education Director Doug Hood. “This accolade reflects her visionary leadership and a genuine passion for kids, and we couldn’t be more proud.”

As the elementary awardee, Sork will represent Washington state nationally as the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) National Distinguished Principal award winner.
