Tia Robertson was sworn in as the Washougal City Council’s newest member during a meeting on Monday, Jan. 8.

Robertson ran unopposed in last November’s general election for the council’s No. 2 position, previously occupied by Michelle Wagner, who ran unopposed for the No. 4 position, replacing Janice Killion.

Robertson has a business management degree from the University of Phoenix and is a small business owner, with over 20 years of experience in the service/management industry, according to the Clark County voters’ guide.

She has volunteered for Columbia Springs Repair Clark County, American Heritage Girls-Vancouver, the city of Washougal’s Adopt-a-Park Program, and the Camas Library’s used book fundraiser events. She also previously served as a member of the city of Washougal’s parks and cemetery board.

“As a small business owner, I’m dedicated to supporting other local entrepreneurs, as well as our agricultural sector,” Robertson wrote in the voter’s guide. “Furthermore, I am a staunch supporter of our police and fire departments. As a member of the City Council, I will ensure that they have the necessary resources required to protect and serve our rapidly-growing community.

“Ultimately, my goal is simple: to represent our community with integrity and ingenuity. I am committed to practical solutions that will enhance our neighborhoods and encourage our youth to pursue a life of service.”

During the meeting, the Council appointed Melanie Poe, Kelly Jones and Teena Winski to the City’s arts commission. Poe, an original commission member, sought re-appointment, while Jones and Winski applied to fill two of the commission’s three vacancies.
