A penalty flag flew before the Camas Papermakers could even run their first play.

Not a good start just a week after getting flagged for 210 yards of penalties.

“That was in our head the whole time,” Camas senior receiver Charlie Barr said. “But it worked out.”

Camas shrugged it off by scoring 29 points in the first quarter while running just 13 plays and shut out rival Union 50-0 on Friday at McKenzie Stadium.

The Papermakers (6-2, 2-0 4A Greater St. Helens League), ranked 10th this week in the Class 4A media poll, had more points than the Titans (2-6, 0-2) had ran plays by the end of the first 12 minutes.

Barr caught three touchdown passes from Tyson Ruggiero, the longest was a 19-yarder that made it 29-0. Ruggiero also rushed for two TDs in the first quarter, and Thor Brody rushed for the first of his two TDs.

The Camas defense recorded three quarterback sacks and blocked a punt that led to Barr’s second TD.

Ollmann caught a two-point conversion toss from Luke Parbon after Ruggiero’s 36-yard TD run for an 8-0 lead. Then on Union’s first play from scrimmage, Ollmann sacked Titans’ quarterback Blake McDonald for a 7-yard loss. He capped off the first half by coming off the end to put a big tackle on Tyson Calizon for a four-yard loss.

Union went four-and-out on that possession, and a short punt gave Camas a short field. Ruggiero ran 39 yards for a touchdown on the first play.
