Washougal High School Green Team students will hold a native plant sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, in the Excelsior Building parking lot at Washougal High.
“We are doing this project with native plants to help reconnect Washougal with Washington,” Green Team member Zion Norton said.
The event will raise funds to support the replanting of the Washougal High School courtyard with native plants, a project that will focus on making the school’s courtyard into a “more welcoming space that also provides educational opportunities about native ecosystems and supports local biodiversity,” according to a news release.
“Nature calms us down, and even on the gloomy days, it will be a beautiful place to hang out during lunch,” Green Team secretary Kaylee Depoppe said.
The plant sale will feature a variety of native plants, suitable for local gardens and landscapes, from Camas-based Nature’s Haven plant nursery. Proceeds will directly fund the courtyard project, with the nursery keeping proceeds in an account students can use to purchase plants for the project.
