Visit to Camas Farmers Market yields treasuSubscriber Exclusive

At a recent gathering, my friend Barbara asked me if I knew where to get edible flowers. She wasn’t having luck finding them in stores. I immediately thought of farmers Kelly Peters and Patrick Dorris of Flat Tack Farm. I’ve been a member of their community supported agriculture program for years and I know that they often offer them. On a visit to the Vancouver Farmers Market, I found the flowers my friend was seeking. It made me realize that one of the many great things about the farmers markets in Clark County is that they’re treasure troves of beautiful and interesting food and drink that can’t be found in a grocery store.

In this vein, I visited the Camas Farmers Market on a scorching hot Wednesday afternoon seeking culinary treasure. Shady Grove Farm had an elaborate bounty of produce including cucumbers, greens and snap peas; Pheasant’s Eye Farm and Fulton Family Farms spread plump peaches and bright berries in their booths; Annie’s Berry Farm brought fresh berries to the market. Miraculously, all this lovely produce looked vibrant and fresh despite the furnace-like heat.
