The city of Washougal is asking residents to review and comment on a draft update to its Onward Comprehensive Plan, which will guide growth, development, public facilities and services through 2045. The public comment period is open through Sept. 18.

The plan update follows a two-year planning process that included data analysis, community input and public engagement. The city will consider feedback received during the comment period before finalizing and adopting the updated plan.

The Onward Comprehensive Plan establishes goals, policies and strategies for land use, infrastructure, housing, transportation, jobs and other community needs. The plan is required under Washington’s Growth Management Act, which requires cities and counties to adopt comprehensive plans and development regulations consistent with 15 statewide planning goals.

Washougal must plan for anticipated growth through 2045, including 6,724 new residents, 3,735 new housing units, and 2,100 new jobs. The draft plan addresses current conditions and trends, forecasts for land use and public infrastructure needs, and strategies for managing growth and development.
