Community-School Partnership takes off in Washougal

Barb Seaman began to think about the possibilities of a community volunteer tutoring program for Washougal High School students several years ago after one of her sons failed his algebra class. Knowing he would have to pass the class in order to get into college, she asked him to take the class again, but knew that he’d require more support to succeed the second time around.

Camas teachers ratify contract, return to class

Members of the Camas Education Association, the union representing 460 educators in the Camas School District, have ratified a new two-year bargaining agreement and returned to the classroom following a strike that began Monday, Aug. 28, and ended Thursday, Sept. 7.

Camas teachers continue to strike; 1st day of school postponed

Camas public school teachers are hitting the picket lines for a second day Tuesday, calling for better class sizes; equitable funding for music, health and library programs; and a cost-of-living salary increase that keeps pace with local inflation rates.

Washougal School Board OKs budget, predicts ‘tough decisions’ ahead

Washougal School Board members approved the Washougal School District’s budget for the 2023-24 school year during its meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 25, but most of their discussions revolved around their concerns about the district’s financial state in 2025, 2026 and 2027.
