Benjamin Ben Hochhalter

January 27, 1927 ~ March 5, 2022
Benjamin Hochhalter was born to John and Matilda Hochhalter on Jan. 25, 1927, in Anamoose, ND, died peacefully at his home in Camas, WA, on March 5, 2022.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Juanita. He is survived by his children, Greg (Janeen), Kay (Chuck), Jeff, Bryan (Karen) and Jani (Mark); nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and his sister, Violet McMichael.
As a child, he lived in Alberta, Canada, where his parents farmed until his father died when Ben was just nine years of age. Ben along with his mother and five siblings relocated to Camas, WA, to be near extended family members. He grew up with the love of a close family, where he learned about the joy of a relationship with Jesus Christ and the value of hard work. He held a variety of jobs; the Vancouver shipyards, Merchant Marines (WWII), Camas Crown Zellerbach papermill, Sunshine Dairy, Medford plywood mill, the Camas School district, Columbia Crest Poultry farm, Western Farmers, and finally, Lynden Farms, where he retired in 1989. Ben enjoyed working on rental properties that he and his wife, Juanita, owned and managed. He was a committed Christian, a member of Gideons International and the Camas Church of the Nazarene (61 years). He loved teaching and ushering at his local church; spending special times together with family and friends; and working on projects.
Ben’s graveside service will be held with immediate family members at Evergreen Memorial Gardens on Friday, March 11. A celebration of life service is being planned for late May.
The family wishes to thank the amazing caregivers from Visiting Angels and Synergy and for the Kaiser Permanente Hospice team that provided outstanding support.
