In Loving Memory of David Eugene Sampson of Camas, WA., He passed while resting in his home at the age of 90 years old.

David was born on June 6, 1936 in Bonneville, WA, at the trading post with a midwife to Willard “Bill” T. Sampson and Julia R. (Dodson) Sampson.

David went out for track, choir, ASB club, Key Club, Big “C” Club, & football in both Junior High and High School and received an award for outstanding player in football in Junior High and excelled in High School and graduated in 1954.

He went to work at the Crown Zellerbach Paper Mill starting on the extra board in 1954 and started in maintenance dept. in 1955. His first job was when maintenance tore down the old opera house (where his grandmother Clara Sampson had played the pipe organ many years earlier) that used to be in the supervisor’s parking lot.

He also held many positions in supervision and took some Clark College classes to excel his career. He retired in 1996, he did come back to work to set up the impact computer system for one more year.

David & his wife Annice of 71 years, raised four boys and instilled strong family values and good work ethic in them which shows today. He also believed in “Live and let live” and family first.

There were many fishing derbies and baseball games where David coached and managed as the boys were growing up as he was very involved with them as well as Boy Scouts, Sea Scouts, and showing them how to use tools and building things.

David was a wood crafter, building furniture and other items. He was a picture painter, and a poet and had many poems published, and also wrote some stories.

There were many family vacations and family get togethers growing up. David was a wonderful husband and father. He was our hero, and had a full life. There were also many fun walks on Lacamas Creek.

He was preceded in death by his parents Willard “Bill” T. Sampson and Julia R. (Dodson) Sampson, sister Myrna K. (Sampson) Moyer, and son Troy B. Sampson.

He leaves behind his wife M. Annice (Rodgers) Sampson, David E. Sampson Jr. (Sheila), Anthony “Tony” Sampson (Debra), Gavin Sampson (Kathy), and many grandchildren & great-grandchildren.

David’s life was one filled with hard work, FUN, adventure, laughter, and lots of memories. Our hearts are full of the love we shared and he will be deeply missed.

In keeping with David’s wishes there will be a family graveside service with a Celebration of Life to be announced later.
