Edward W. Acheson

June 30,1932 ~ September 12, 2021
Edward William Acheson died Sept. 14, 2021, at home in Washougal surrounded by family. He was 89.
He was born June 30, 1932, in Chewelah, WA, to William and Margaret (Poetter) Acheson one of five children. At the age of 20 he joined the Air Force, where he served as an airplane mechanic during the Korean War.
Ed married Emma Smith on Jan. 16, 1954, moving to Washougal where they raised their four children. Ed worked at the Camas paper mill for 38 years, retiring in 1990. In 1976, Ed and Emma owned and operated Washougal Arts and Crafts, followed by the Big Dipper ice cream shop.
Ed had a wonderful sense of humor and was a devoted family man. He treasured his family, and always made them feel loved and appreciated. When he said he loved you, you knew it was spoken from the heart. He enjoyed warm days, puttering around his garage, and volunteering for East County Fire and Rescue and the CAPE Enrichment Program.
Ed is survived by his wife of 67 years, Emma; four children, Lonnie Acheson of Oregon City, OR, Tammy Dinius and her husband, Ron, of Washougal, Larry Acheson and his wife, Lorri, of Tigard, OR, Jerry Acheson and his wife, Heather, of Washougal; sister, Linda Meadows of Chewelah; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren with another on the way; and close friends, including Don and Shari Blackett of Washougal.
A private memorial service will be held. To sign the online guestbook, visit brownsfh.com.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to an account set up at iQ Credit Union in Edward Acheson’s name. A scholarship will be established to support local students in need.
