Jean (83) passed away peacefully after a long illness.
Jean was born in Portland, Multnomah County, OR, to Paul (nmn) Trzil and Beatrice Meriem (Bee) on May 13, 1939. She attended Russellville Grade School. On Christmas Eve 1949 her mother married Les E. Leonhardt, and the family moved to a 20-acre farm in Grass Valley west of Camas, Clark County, WA.
Jean loved horses but was thin and as an incentive to gain weight was promised a horse which she earned shortly…she named the horse Prince.
Jean graduated from the then “new” Camas High School in 1957 where she had been a member of the Camas Rally Squad. She entered Pacific Lutheran College in Tacoma, Pierce County, WA, as a freshman. She worked at the Crown Zellerbach Papermill in Camas, attended Clark Community College in Vancouver, WA, took additional classes at Portland Community College, and attended Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) in Portland earning her B.S. in Nursing. She was a practicing R.N. at the Veteran’s Hospital in Portland. She was a Red Cross Emergency Disaster Service receptionist.
Jean married Dr. Lauren Stanley on July 13, 1963. They divorced in the 1980s. They resided on a walnut farm on Bull Mountain in Tigard, Washington County, OR. They had four children.
Her interests included landscape painting, stained glass, sewing, gardening, and reading.
Jean was predeceased by her father (Paul), mother (Bea), stepfather (Les) and sister-in-law (Christy).
Jean is survived by her children, Karen (David) Judish, Dyann (Steve) Ness, Katie Holmen, Gavin (Stephanie) Stanley; by her grandchildren, Sophia and Logan Judish; Luke, Jake, and Colt Ness; Carson and Ana Holmen; and Connor and Jenna Linn Stanley; and by her brothers, John (Sally) Trzil and Fred Leonhardt; and by her nieces and nephews, David (Valerie) Trzil, Vicky (Chris) Conway, Amanda (Blaine) Thomas, and Adrienne Leonhardt.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at the Tigard Christ the King Lutheran Church on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. A private service will be held where her cremains will be inurned with her maternal grandparents at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery located at Mt. Scott in S.E. Portland, OR. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed. Donations may be made to her church which was her foundation of faith and peace or to a charity of your choice.
