Ruth Hansen, 98, was born July 31, 1922, and passed away July 20, 2021, in Woodland, WA. She grew up in Brush, CO. Ruth attended Colorado State University. She was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and president of Associated Women Students. She graduated in 1944 with a major in public school music and was listed in Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges in 1943-1944.
After teaching one year in Colorado, she took a job with United Air Lines in Florida for a few years. In 1949, Ruth moved to Washougal to teach high school music. She met and married Al Hansen in 1950. They had two children, Karen and Alan. After several years, Ruth taught sixth grade then fourth grade from 1966-1984 in Washougal.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, teaching youth and volunteering in many ways.
Ruth loved getting together with family and friends to celebrate birthdays and holidays. She also loved serving them coffee and cookies! She enjoyed cooking, baking, knitting and reading. She was an accomplished pianist.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Karen (Mike) Bena; three nephews, and three nieces. Al and her son, Alan preceded her in death.
A joint celebration of life for Ruth and Alan will be held on Aug. 12, at 1 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Camas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Southwest Peace Health Hospice.
