Washougal native Levi Kitchen was awarded the Nicky Hayden American Motocross Association’s Horizon Award, presented annually to the amateur motocross racer with the most promising professional career, earlier this month.

Kitchen received the award after winning titles in the Open Pro and 250 Pro Sport divisions at the Monster Energy AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship, held at Loretta Lynn Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, on Aug. 7.

Seven days later, Kitchen, a member of the Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha team, finished eighth in his second professional race, the Unadilla National in New Berlin, New York. He plans to compete in the final four Lucas Oil Pro Motocross events this fall.
