School notes for June 22

Scurrah graduates from Cornell Mark Scurrah graduated on May 30 from Cornell University with a bachelor of arts degree in microbiology. He is a 2006 graduate of Camas High School. Scurrah will be applying for medical school later in the year, after completing the medical college admission test this summer. Free summer lunch program set in Hathaway All children ages 1 to 18 in Washougal are invited to eat lunch for free at Hathaway Elementary School this summer. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday, June 28 to Aug. 13 at the school; located at 630 24th St. There is no paperwork to fill out. Meals must be eaten on site, and adults may not eat any portion of the child's lunch. Lunch will not be served Monday, July 5. Huntington graduates from Colby College Foster R. Huntington of Washougal was one of 477 seniors who graduated from Colby College on May 23. He received a bachelor of arts degree at the outdoor commencement in Waterville, Maine. Huntington is the son of Stephanie and Daniel Huntington of Washougal. 'The Pajama Game' comes to Washougal 'The Pajama Game' will open the doors to the Sleep Tite Pajama Factory. The production features local actors. It is about Sid, the handsome new manager, who runs afoul of the feisty and headstrong Babe, leader of the Union Grievance Committee. Their dispute over a seven-and-a-half cent raise is complicated by a budding romance, which parallels the ups and downs of the labor/ management negotiations while turning the workplace into a the ideal musical comedy background. The production features familiar Broadway pop standards of the 1950s including "Steam Heat", "Hey There" and "Hernando's Hideaway." Tickets cost $12 for general admission; and $10 for youth 16 years old and senior citizens. Tickets are available online at www.newblueparrot.com The show will run at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, July 9 and 10; and Thursday, Friday and Saturday, July 15, 16 and 17. There is also a matinee performance at 1 p.m. July 10. The show was originally scheduled at the Washburn Performing Arts Center, but the closure of Washougal High in July means it will be performed at Heritage High School, 7825 N.E. 130th Ave, Vancouver. The August show 'Thoroughly Modern Millie' will be performed at the Washburn Performing Arts Center on Friday and Saturday, Aug 13-14 and 20-21. 'Weed and Feed' Wednesdays will return Volunteers are needed this summer for 'Weed and Feed' Wednesdays at the Camas Roots Garden. Community members are invited to help with weeding and other basic garden maintenance. Produce will be harvested for the Inter-faith Treasure House food bank in Washougal. The garden will be open every Wednesday from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. through Sept.1. Camas Roots is a partnership between the Camas School District and community volunteers.
