Local students make WSU honor roll Washington State University recently announced its President's Honor Roll for the summer semester. Local residents to earn the recognition include: From Camas: Jacqueline Faith Damon, Justin Kelly Donoghue, Samantha Sue Ebert-Carte, Joseph John Mackay, Cathy F. Manwell, Joseph Quinn McLellan, Megan Marie Murphy-Koreski, Ashley Megan Oster, Ardys B. Parsons, Shayna Elizabeth Pordes, Jon Jeffrey Ragsdale, Philip Emil Roggemann, Earl E. Sadewasser, Jessica Lynn Soule, Mark Thomas Sundem and Luis Armando Valencia. From Washougal: Michael Adam Bradley, Tori Lynne Cox, Michelle Lea Hensler, Duncan Stewart Holbrook, Rochelle R. To be eligible for the honor roll, an undergraduate student must earn a grade point average of 3.75 in at least nine graded hours in a single term, or a GPA of 3.50 based on at least 15 cumulative hours of graded work. There are a total of 18,000 undergraduate students attending WSU. Guardians of Ga'hoole party set The Camas Public Library will host a 'Guardians of Ga'hoole" party on Friday, Sept. 24 from 7 to 8 p.m. for all ages. The title is a best-selling children's book series and will soon open on the big screen as a 3-D movie. The library invites patrons to join the opening day party with games, crafts, cake, punch, a free raffle, a costume contest for best owl, and a visit from a real owl. Backpack blessing set for Sunday All students are invited to attend a backpack blessing on Sunday, Sept. 12, at the 9 and 11:15 a.m. worship services at Zion Lutheran Church, 824 N.E. Fourth Ave. All students are encouraged to bring their backpacks and attend. There will also be Sunday school at 10 a.m. For more information, call 834-4201. Locals graduate from Whitworth Two Camas residents recently graduated from Whitworth University in Spokane. Both students earned bachelor of arts degrees. They are Stephan Ainley and Stephen Baranowski. CD craft extravaganza is Thursday The Camas library will host a CD sculpture craft for teens on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. Youth in grades 7 through 12 are invited to make a sculpture, picture, rainbow catcher or other unique creations using CDs. Library is recruiting members for YAC The Camas Public Library is looking for kids ages 13 to 17 to join its Youth Advisory Council. Council members plan library programs, discuss book orders, earn volunteer hours doing special project. Applications will be available at the next meeting, which will be held tonight, at 7 .p.m., at the library, 625 N.E. Fourth Ave. Snacks will be served. Miss America will speak at benefit for Camas school A former Miss America will be the keynote speaker during an upcoming benefit for Pacific Crest Academy in Camas. The school's second annual benefit tea will be held Saturday, Oct. 16, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at The Heathman Lodge in Vancouver. The keynote speaker will be Katie Harman Ebner, 2002 Miss America from Oregon. In addition to benefitting the private Christian school Pacific Crest Academy, a portion of the proceeds will also go to Evergreen Habitat for Humanity. Tickets, $60 per person, can be purchased by calling Manda Levie at 834-9913. Fall Community Education catalog available The fall East County Community Education catalog is now online.
