A longtime local resident who has been a gun club member and a private collector of firearms for 15 years has opened a new business in downtown Washougal.

Erik Cain, 41, sells pistols, revolvers and rifles, as well as ammunition, scopes, swords, knives and binoculars at NW Cain Inc. armory. Examples of the current inventory include a Ruger P95 automatic pistol and a Smith & Wesson 629 Classic revolver.

Cain is a licensed federal and state firearms dealer, and his business is an authorized Swift Sport Optics and ProTec gun cleaning supplies dealer.

Cain, a 1987 Camas High School graduate, has been an electrician for 14 years.

“It’s been a longtime dream to open my own gun shop,” he said. “There is a real need to support gun safety and sportsmanship.”

Cain said his family has lived in Washougal for more than 100 years.

Chris Cottrell, a junior firearms instructor, provides gun repair and maintenance. He is an Olympic hopeful who aspires to participate in the shooting competition at the 2012 Summer Games in London.

“My sole purpose of opening this shop is to promote him and youth involvement in firearms – sportsmanship, hunting, fishing and competition shooting,” Cain said.

Private lessons in gun safety and training are available.

Cain’s son Luke, a 2009 CHS grad, makes custom wood products for the sporting industry including gun racks. There are also woodcrafts created by artist/designer Terry Foltz, of Battle Ground. Tim Hopper, a master gunsmith, is expected to arrive in December.

Discounts on firearms purchases are available for active military personnel and law enforcement with identification, and there are discounts on gunsmithing services for veterans.

NW Cain Inc. armory, 1436 “A” St., Ste. 202, is open Tuesday through Friday, from noon to 6 p.m., and Saturday, by appointment. For more information, call 910-7489 or email NWC.inc@hotmail.com.
