Preschool ‘Childfind’ screening set

There will be free screenings for children ages 3 to 5 who reside within the Camas School District boundaries on Wednesday, March 26.

The screening tests children in hearing, vision, speech, concepts and motor development, and lasts approximately one hour.

Results are confidential and shared with parents only. Call the Special Services Department at 833-5570 for an appointment.

Excelsior names its ‘Phoenix on Fire’ for March

Excelsior High School, Washougal’s alternative school, has named Robyn Ruth as its March student of the month.

The “Phoenix on Fire” at Excelsior has the traits of being “inspiring, responsible, respectful, has great attendance, an excellent work ethic and positive attitude.”

A school press release noted Ruth’s work ethic and grades, and her plans to attend college as a junior.

“She is looking forward to Running Start at Clark College this spring. Robyn consistently displays the character traits that we hope to instill in every Phoenix at Excelsior.”

Google scholarship contest open

Students have until Thursday to enter into Doodle 4 Google 2014. The winning artwork will be showcased on Google’s homepage logo for millions to see and the artist will receive a $30,000 college scholarship and a $50,000 technology grant for their school.

Washington state students from kindergarten through 12th grade are invited to enter doodles inspired by the theme:

“If I could invent one thing to make the world a better place….”

A winner will be selected from each state, and the national winner will have their art displayed on Google.com in June and will become an honorary Google doodler for a day and animate their doodle with a Google team in Mountain View, Calif.
