The annual Camas Plein Air outdoor painting event will be held this Saturday throughout downtown Camas.
People can watch artists paint outdoors at various points along Northeast Fourth Avenue and other main downtown Camas streets from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., then attend an artist reception at RedDoor Gallery, 411 N.E. Dallas Street, from 4 to 6 p.m. to see the finished art, meet the artists and view an awards ceremony.
“Camas is a destination for many tourists throughout the year,” event organizer Liz Pike said in a news release. “These visitors are always looking for charming paintings of downtown Camas to take home. This event provides a perfect opportunity to do just that. This celebration of art and community marks a cherished tradition in Camas’s cultural calendar.”
The competition not only showcases professional artists at work, but honors the legacy of Marquita Call, the late founder of the Camas Plein Air event and “passionate advocate for the local art community,” according to the news release.
“With grit and grace, Marquita was a one-woman, nonstop promoter of the arts in our community,” said Pike, the owner of the RedDoor Gallery. “As a visionary gallery owner, she successfully launched the careers of numerous artists.”
