Hike on the Dike to raise funds for West Columbia Gorge Humane Society animal shelter

The West Columbia Gorge Humane Society will host its annual Hike on the Dike fundraiser Sept. 19 along the Columbia River dike.

The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the WCGHS dog shelter, 2695 Index St., with on-site registration, which costs $20 or $40 with an event shirt. Participants can also fundraise to participate for free.

Festivities will include a dog costume contest at 9 a.m., a police K-9 demonstration, a dog agility course, a photo booth, face painting, live music, raffles and other activities. Registered walkers will receive a complimentary coffee or tea, an entry into a door-prize drawing and a coupon for a free gift at the WCGHS booth at All Paws on Deck, a street fair organized by Camas High School DECA students from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in downtown Camas.

Proceeds from Hike on the Dike support WCGHS operations, including veterinary care, food and shelter for homeless pets. The nonprofit operates cat and dog shelters and provides community programs including veterinary assistance and pet food and supply pantries.
