The Rotary Club of Camas-Washougal has donated more than $2,100 worth of diapers and baby wipes to Akin, a Seattle-based nonprofit that supports children and families, through a community service project aimed at helping local households meet basic needs.
The project provided $2,160.10 in supplies for families facing financial hardship. Funding came from a $1,000 Rotary District 5100 grant, $984.32 in in-kind donations from Rotary members and a $175.78 contribution from the Rotary Foundation of Camas-Washougal.
Club members collected diapers and baby wipes during Rotary meetings in March and April before delivering the supplies to Akin.
“Saving mothers and children is one of the specific Rotary ‘areas of focus’ that guide our actions,” Rotarian Susan Chambers, who coordinated the project, said in a news release. “We recognized the need locally and stepped up to assist.”
The donated supplies will help Akin continue providing support to children and families throughout the region. Access to essential items such as diapers and baby wipes can make a significant difference for families struggling to meet daily expenses, Rotary officials said.
