Half of Southwest Washington residents lack the resources to cover basic necessities such as housing and food, a rate higher than the state average and equal to that of the congressional district that includes Seattle, according to a report released Monday.
The report from the Urban Institute examines economic hardship across the country. The data measured the share of people who “lack the resources needed to fully participate in today’s economy,” which the Urban Institute refers to as the True Cost of Economic Security threshold. The findings show the financial pressures facing households in Southwest Washington.
