The sounds of guitar, bass and drums drew the attention of a Downtown Camas Association representative during the city’s August First Friday event. The three teenage musicians were told they could continue playing — but only if they unplugged.
The encounter has sparked a dispute over the rules governing street performers during First Friday. The downtown association says amplified performances must be approved in advance as part of the event’s programming, while the students’ music teacher says they had previously been told by Camas police that no city permit was required to perform on a public sidewalk.
