A youngster with culinary ambitions has grown up and is making her dreams come true. Bethani Higdon won a Camas-Washougal Girl Scout baking competition at the age of 8, when she made mocha chocolate brownies. Her mother, Connie, recalls Bethani, now 21, saying that when she grew up, she was going to open a restaurant. The mother and daughter plan to open WildFlour Cafe & Cupcakes, in downtown Washougal, this Friday.
Amnesia Brewing has announced it is moving all of its operations to downtown Washougal. The company, owned by Kevin King and his wife, Kristina, has sold its Portland location to StormBreaker Brewing. The site, at 832 N. Beech St., will remain open through December. A new 15-barrel brewing system began production in March, at 1834 Main St., in Washougal. It was a month after a tasting room opened at the 5,500-square-foot site. Waste Connections Inc. has celebrated the opening of its first compressed natural gas facility in Clark County. It is located at the hauling facility at 9411 N.E. 94th Ave., Vancouver. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Sept. 12.
It was only a year ago that Chris Dierickx and Nick Brown were working in two separate funeral homes in the small community of Camas. Dierickx is a fourth generation funeral director and current owner of Straub's Funeral Home and Columbia River Cremation, while at that time Brown was a third generation funeral director at Brown's Funeral Home and Cremation Services. "We were both managers of our own family firms," said Brown. "We really had only talked in passing. It wasn't that there was any hostility between the two of us, we just didn't know each other."
Clark County's interim county administrator will begin his new job on Sept. 11. Mark McCauley, who is currently the county's general services director, will step in for retiring County Administrator Bill Barron.

The new manager of investor relations for the Columbia River Economic Development Council worked three years as the district director for U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell. Kimberly Pincheira served in a similar capacity for former Congressman Brian Baird.
