‘I feel like we’ve pretty much recovered’: Skyridge Middle School library collection rebuilt after storm damage thanks to grants

On Jan. 14, 2024, a winter storm caused fire sprinkler and HVAC system pipes at Skyridge Middle School in Camas to freeze and crack, sending more than 3,200 gallons of water through the building and damaging 22 classrooms and the school’s library. Within minutes, the flood destroyed hundreds of books, including most of the library’s science tomes.

Washougal High School students present to utility experts

Washougal High School science students took on the roles of urban planners and grid engineers earlier this month, presenting proposals for the region’s energy future. The students’ plans aimed to balance long-term reliability, environmental concerns and conservation, and were evaluated by a panel of experts from Clark Public Utilities.

Camas grad Sophia Wade selected for internship in Ireland

Sophia Wade’s interest in activism dates back to her days as a student at Camas High School, where she created an equity curriculum called “Windows and Mirrors” to address ignorance and promote inclusive practices. For her efforts, she won the 2024 Marshall Youth Leadership Award.

Camas girl’s activity carts bring comfort

Despite being born with a rare metabolic disorder that will significantly affect the rest of her life, Nysa Vinod has maintained a warm, giving spirit and relentlessly positive outlook.
