Camas fares well at robotics contest

The mission: Design, build and program a robot "dragster" to race down a narrow lane and accurately stop when it "sees" the finish line. That is the challenge which students at Camas High, Hayes Freedom High and Liberty Middle schools accepted.

They’re exploring the creative side

Gause Elementary School students have enjoyed the chance to explore their creative side, thanks to the school's Artist in Residence program. The program, sponsored by the school Boosters, connects kids with visiting artists, who demonostrate their specific genre, be it oils, pastels or charcoal pencils.

Dedicated learners and educators

A special education teacher with a passion for his craft, along with a fifth-grade teacher who supports both students and colleagues, are being recognized for their efforts. Mike Brasch and Marie Klemmer are being recognized as Teachers of the Year by the Camas-Washougal Chamber of Commerce. They will be honored at a banquet on June 4. Brash is a special education teacher at Hayes Freedom High School in Camas, while Klemmer teaches fifth-grade at Gause Elementary School in Washougal.

Remembering Mrs. Champion

Hathaway Elementary School has lost a beloved teacher. Susan Champion, 59, passed away from cancer on Friday, May 9. Principal Laura Bolt describes the third-grade teacher as "vibrant and energetic," even in her final months. She was in the classroom until winter break.

Jenkins resigns from Washougal School District

Math teacher Jay Jenkins has resigned from Washougal High School. The School Board accepted his resignation, effective at the end of the school year, at a special meeting on Thursday.

CSD students shine at state science fair

Students from Dorothy Fox, Prune Hill, Skyridge, and Camas High School fared well at the recent Washington State Science and Engineering Fair. The 57th annual fair, held in Bremerton, features students in grades one through 12, competing for more than $1.8 million in trophies, prizes, scholarships, and an opportunity to attend the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair. The state fair is sponsored by several colleges and industries including Boeing, NASA, Bonneville Power, Helix, Go Daddy, Johns Hopkins and the City of Bremerton.
