Kimi Knight continues family tradition of perfect attendance

When Kimi Knight walks across the stage at Camas High School's commencement ceremonies, she'll be continuing a proud family tradition.Not only did her two older sisters, Hillary and Allie, graduate as Papermakers, but they had perfect attendance during all their years of school. Come Friday, so will Kimi. "I've just never gotten sick, and when I have, it is always on weekends or over break," Kimi said. "When I have a doctor's or orthodontist appointment, I schedule it after school."

Skyridge Middle School students spend a day with the Columbia River Fisheries Program

When avid fisherman Gayle Cooper was asked if she'd like to take students on a field trip to the Columbia River Fisheries Program, she jumped at the opportunity. "Fishing is really big in my family and there's also the environmental component, which is very important," said the Skyridge Middle School teacher. The CHS Science Olympiad Team placed 13th overall at the national tournament this year, the best team score in their three years representing Washington state at the competition. Camas Science Olympiad team places 13th at nationals

Nineteen Camas High School students attended the Science Olympiad National Tournament in Dayton, Ohio recently. Students competed in 25 events against 59 other high school state champion schools from across the country at Wright University.

Sophia Hansen of Camas is this year's winner of the Eoff Award from the Portland Youth Philharmonic. Hansen is a Skyridge Middle School sixth-grader and viola player with the organization.

Papermaker Preschool opens enrollment The Papermaker Preschool, located at Camas High School, has open enrollment for children who are 4 by Aug. 31. The morning session runs from 8:45 to 11:15 a.m., and the afternoon session runs from 12:45 to 3:15 p.m. The full-time preschool hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Part-time tuition is $230 per month, and full time tuition is $690 per month (nine-hour maximum per day). The preschool follows the Camas School District calendar.

Third-grader Brian Hoff, kindergartner Addysen Case and first-grader Davlin Coburn proudly display the prizes they won for being top fundraisers during the Hoops for Heart event at Lacamas Heights Elementary School. A total of $10,925 was raised for the American Heart Association. Of that total, Coburn was the top fundraiser at $1,205. Case raised $410 and Hoff raised $270.

Lacamas Heights Elementary students raise nearly $11,000 during Hoops for Heart

For the past several years, Lacamas Heights Elementary students have raised money for the American Heart Association. This year, 115 students participated in AHA's Hoops for Hearts program. It was coordinated by Jeanie Moran, Lacamas Heights physical education teacher. In all, the students raised $10,925 for the AHA, which is $4,745 more than last year. "Hoops for Heart is a great event because it allows us to teach the kids about community service, as well as educate them about the heart, heart disease, and the role that exercise plays in heart health," said Moran.
