Getting to school safe

When the Camas School District reduced bus service as a cost-saving measure in 2010, it meant a big increase in kids walking to school. As a result, more emphasis has been placed on having crossing guards at busy intersections to help students travel safely.

Washougal High School students spent their Friday afternoon collecting and loading food onto school buses during the annual Stuff the Bus event, which was created by the Camas-Washougal Business Alliance.

Feeding the community

Local charities will have better-stocked food pantries this winter thanks to the efforts of local students and the Camas-Washougal Business Alliance. The fourth-annual Stuff the Bus, a friendly competition between Camas and Washougal high schools, brought in 61,600 pounds of food Friday.

Local youth to perform in ‘Nutcracker’

Clara, the Mouse King and Sugar Plum Fairy will return to the Royal Durst Theatre this weekend for the holiday classic, "The Nutcracker." The show is presented by Columbia Dance, a company of dancers ages 7 to 26. Several are from the Camas and Washougal areas.

Pinocchio comes to life in Washougal

The classic tale of an aging toy maker and his puppet, Pinocchio, will come to the stage at Washougal High School's Washburn Performing Arts Center.

The middle school Science Olympiad will take place at Camas High School this Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It involves teams of students working together on events ranging from biology and physics to hands-on creations.

Showing science skills

Science Olympiad has frequently been referred to as "a track meet for the mind." It involves a team of students who demonstrate their knowledge of science by working together on events ranging from biology and physics to hands-on creations. On Saturday, the Camas High School Science Olympiad team will host its annual tournament for middle schools. The students come from Washington, Oregon and California to participate in the competition. "We invite anyone of all ages to come experience this display of intelligence and hard work," CHS Science Olympiad team member Eugene Hsu said.
