Getting greener

For the past three years, Skyridge Middle School has been at the forefront of the environmentally friendly Washington Green Schools program, which provides resource conservation tools for students, teachers and community members. Recently, four seventh-graders were selected to attend a county wide student-teacher Green Schools Summit. They included Joey Emmet, Cooper McNatt, Michael Matthews and Christian Nghiem. They were selected because of a keen interest in being environmentally friendly, according to teacher Gale Cooper. "These kids are really excited about our existing programs at the school and are avid recyclers," she said.

Union High School senior Micah Lewis will play his trombone in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. Lewis was one of only three students chosen to represent Washington state in the parade's Great American Marching Band.

Ask Mary Lou Woody what makes Cape Horn-Skye Elementary School a success, and the answer is simple. "The staff," she said. "I always tell them that I know just how lucky I am. They have high expectations, both for themselves and each other."

Washougal High School students will bring Broadway to the Washburn Performing Arts Center this weekend. The actors are performing, "Guys and Dolls," a Broadway musical based on the book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows, with music by Frank Loesser.

Tiffani Pekkala, a Camas teen, joined other young people between the ages of 15 and 22 at the nation's capitol in Washington, D.C. They were there to tell elected officials their personal stories of living with rare and life-threatening diseases.
