2018 grads set to walk this weekend

Seniors from Camas, Washougal and Hayes Freedom high schools will walk in graduation ceremonies throughout the weekend, beginning with Camas High’s class of 2018 graduation at 7 p.m., Friday evening.

Camas High students share love of STEM

School construction on pace

Camas School District’s new Lacamas Lake Elementary school building is on track to open for the 2018-19 school year, and the district plans to repurpose the former Lacamas Heights Elementary building off Northeast Garfield Street for continued use.

Chamber names 2018 ‘Teachers of the Year’

The Camas-Washougal Chamber of Commerce has named its Teachers of the Year for 2018, and will honor Camas High School photography/graphic arts teacher Doug Huegli and Cape Horn-Skye Elementary first-grade teacher Darcy Hickey at an upcoming awards ceremony at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 6, at Camas Meadows Golf Club.

Washougal teachers say pay falls short

National Teacher Appreciation Day fell on May 8 this year, the same day as a regularly scheduled Washougal School Board meeting, and dozens of Washougal teachers showed up with an idea for how district leaders could really show their appreciation — increasing teacher salaries to match compensation packages offered by surrounding school districts.

Field trip brings class to life

A Camas High forensic science class is giving students a chance to learn about crime scene observations, blood spatter, fingerprinting and ballistics.
