Sport’s popularity puts players in a pickle

Mike Wolfe has seen more and more new faces during his regular trips to the pickleball courts at Hathaway Park in Washougal as one of the fastest-growing sports in the United States continues to gain popularity in East Clark County.

Some fall sports resume Feb. 1

Camas and Washougal high school runners, golfers and tennis players will return to competition in February, but the rest of the traditional fall sports athletes will have to wait a bit longer to find out when their seasons will begin.

Prep sports to start in February amid uncertainty

The COVID-19 pandemic upset high school sports last spring and has caused multiple delays during the 2020-21 school year, but Camas High School Athletic Director Rory Oster remains hopeful local student-athletes will be able to complete their 2020-21 sports seasons.

Camas-Washougal athletes resume practice sessions

Jacques Badolato-Birdsell had hoped to lead the Camas High School football team to a second consecutive 4A state championship this fall. But after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the postponement of the prep football season, the senior running back has had ample time to reflect on his passion for the sport and the importance of his bonds with his teammates and coaches.

Practice for Washougal equestrian team OK’d

Although the Camas and Washougal equestrian teams are both members of the Washington High School Equestrian Teams Association, only one team may be able to compete this season.

State revises COVID-19 rules on school sports

Camas and Washougal high school student-athletes won’t participate in any official competitions for at least two more months, but new guidelines from the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) have given them hope that they’ll be able to return to the practice field soon.
