Beginning Friday, traffic on Highway 14 in Camas-Washougal will be shifted to a new southern frontage road that runs parallel to the highway. This route will take drivers through two roundabouts at Union (above) and Second streets for the next 10 months.

SR-14 traffic shifts to frontage road on Friday

Drivers on state Route 14 in Camas and Washougal will see some major changes in their trips next week when crews start the second half of a $49 million construction project that when complete will improve safety and traffic flow between Vancouver, east Clark County and the Columbia River Gorge. At 8 p.m. on Friday, all traffic on state Route 14 will shift to a new southern frontage road that runs parallel to the highway. Drivers will travel 25 mph through two roundabouts at Union and Second streets for nearly 10 months.

The woman who was found dead earlier this week in the Little Washougal River has been identified as a Washougal resident.

Jim Hill, of Camas, is the national marketing director for BatheEZ -- a company that sells tubs designed primarily for the physically impaired, as well as senior citizens and children. The tub display, with walls and lighting, is portable for setting up at fairs and shows. The BatheEZ product has been in the development stage for four years.

BatheEZ tub is designed for individuals who need assistance

A local man sells a product that has been in the development stages for four years. Jim Hill, of Camas, is the national marketing director for BatheEZ, a bath tub insert that fits over an existing tub. "Our never before seen product will greatly help individuals in the elderly/senior health care industry," he said. "It is a safe, easy, economical way for the elderly, seniors and physically impaired to take a quality bath."

Virginia Warren is retiring from the Friends of the Camas Community Center Board. She has served as the historian since 1985.

A community ambassador

Positive. Unwavering dedication. Heartfelt hope. These are just a few of the adjectives people who know her use to describe Virginia Warren. "Her personality has consistently been upbeat, vivacious, loyal, dedicated, fun-loving, and with a 'glass is half full' outlook on life," said Krista Bashaw, special events coordinator for Camas Parks and Recreation. Bashaw has known Warren since she moved to Camas in 1995 and began volunteer work with the Friends of the Camas Community Center. Warren has served on the board since 1985 and is retiring for the third time.

Belle Mathieu (right) applauds the performance of friend and singer Hayley Redinger Sunday night during a benefit auction and concert at Journey Community Church in Camas. The event was a fundraiser for Mathieu, co-owner of A Twist On Time, who is recovering after suffering a severe stroke in December. According to event co-organizer Peter Arvidson, $5,500 was raised.

Benefit for Belle

On Dec. 31, 2011, Belle Mathieu's life changed forever when she suffered a severe brain stem stroke as she was getting ready to go for a walk with a friend.

Climbing for a cause

Washougal Volunteer Firefighter Jacob "Jake" Grindy plans to be among the more than 1,500 individuals who will climb 1,311 steps in Seattle. Grindy will be joined by Washougal volunteers Tyler McMahon and Dustin Bross and paid firefighter Ron Nickles, as well as East County Fire & Rescue Firefighters/Emergency Medical Technicians John Prasch and Kelby Kiedrowski, in the "Scott Firefighter Stair Climb" Sunday, March 11. The event, which will take place in the Columbia Center, raises money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. "It's a really good cause and a fun way to make money for the society," Grindy said. "I've been affected, as many people have, with cancer in my family. I think this is a good way to give back."
