After more than 60 years, the gym floor in Washougal High School is finally getting an upgrade. "We've been working behind the scenes to develop a communication plan, and will visit a showroom floor to see examples of floors," said Kelley Wilson, an architect with ESD 112's construction services group, to the School Board recently. The visit to Branson Hardwood will take place in late December and will potentially include the WHS athletic director, principal, physical education teachers and coaches. After a stop at the showroom, the group will visit an area high school with the style of gym floor they prefer. A budget for the floor will be determined in January, Wilson said. A preliminary estimate is $240,268.
It's now December, and many people are finally feeling ready to get into the spirit of the holiday season. A number of events this weekend in Camas and Washougal will help local residents do just that.
Finalists who hope to become the next Camas city administrator will go through the interview process next week. After initially receiving 70 applications, consultants from Waldron -- firm hired by the city to help with the effort -- has narrowed the pool to the top 10 applicants. A selection committee, made up of Mayor Scott Higgins, Human Resources Director Jennifer Gorsuch, City Administrator Lloyd Halverson, retired Public Works Director Monte Brachmann, and Councilman Greg Anderson, are in the process of reviewing the qualifications of the top 10 and will select the four to six people who will be invited to Camas for formal interviews.
A traffic stop involving an off-duty Vancouver police detective for one traffic violation in Washougal escalated into situations that resulted in additional charges. According to a press release issued by the Washougal Police Department, Det. Jeremy Free was driving a vehicle that slowed and then rolled through the stop sign at 49th and P streets on Nov. 24, at approximately 11:04 p.m. After WPD Cpl. Troy Martin activated his overhead lights, Free pulled to the side of the road and stopped, then lurched as if he had fumbled with the brakes, according to WPD Cmdr. Allen Cook.
