Yeager accepted in National Society of HS scholars

Breanna Yeager, a Washougal High School sophomore, has been selected for membership in the National Society of High School Scholars.

Membership in the group entitles qualified students to enjoy a varity of benefits, including scholarship opportunities, academic competitions, free events, member-only resources, publications and more. Excelsior student wins Watershed Reflections contest

Travis Hibbs, a junior at Excelsior High School in Washougal, was selected as a winner in an art contest.

His photo was chosen as the winner for the ninth to 12th-grade category in the Clark Public Utilities Stream Team 2011 Watershed Reflections Contest.

Skyridge students to perform ‘Guys and Dolls’

Skyridge Middle School students will perform the play, ‘Guys and Dolls’ from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Camas High School, 26900 S.E. 15th St. Tickets can be purchased at the door and cost $7 for adults, and $5 for students and seniors.

Time capsule ceremony is Sunday

A time capsule containing mementoes reflecting the people and places of the Washougal community will be buried during a ceremony on Sunday, at Washougal High School.

River Homelink sets parent information night

River Homelink, a school for children in kindergarten through eighth-grade, will hold two informational nights for parents interested in having their children attend the school. The information nights will be 10 a.m. Wednesday and 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Camas High School student Garrett Wilgus is collecting gently used musical instruments for his senior project.

Library changes spring break movie to ‘Megamind’

The Camas Public Library will change one of the movies it will show during the popular annual spring break movies. On Friday, April 8 instead of, “The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader,” the library will show, “Megamind,“ another recent PG movie.

Jemtegaard Middle School librarians are currently preparing for the school’s upcoming book fair.

The event will be held Tuesday, March 29 and Wednesday, March 30, from 7:45 a.m. to 3 p.m., and on Thursday, March 31, from 7:45 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., for a family night event.

Local student makes honor roll at OSU

Brittney N. Oljar of Camas has made the fall term honor roll at Oregon State University.

To make the honor roll, students must take at least 12 graded credits and earn at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA.

School board seeking applicants

The Washougal School Board is seeking applicants to fill two vacancies that will be left when longtime members Orlan Gessford and Tom Huffman retire Jan. 31.

Qualified applicants must be U.S. citizens, registered voters and reside in the appropriate director district. The open positions will be in districts one and four. Employees and immediate family members of district employees are not allowed to serve on the board.
