‘OurBar’ will locate at 1887 Main development

A couple that met at a pub in Boulder, Col., three years ago, plans to open a cafe and bar in downtown Washougal. Kevin Credelle and Alex Yost expect to serve breakfast, lunch and happy hour dishes in OurBar, at 1887 Main, in April 2013. Dinner service will begin in July. Credelle and Yost, of Washougal, plan to provide 'lovingly crafted, homemade and affordable food designed to pair with beer and wine,' according to their website www.our-bar.com. "We source as much of our meat, produce and dairy from local farmers as possible and will frequently change our menu to embrace seasonal availability," the site states.

Church of the Nazarene pastor plans to retire

Pastor Richard Sales of Camas Church of the Nazarene will retire on Jan. 1 after more than 50 years of service in the ministry. Pastor Sales and his wife Joanne began their ministry in 1959, serving with the First Church of the Nazarene in Livingston, Mont. After a call to Oceanside, Calif., he later served as pastor in Midway City. He and his family moved to attend Bethany Nazarene College in Bethany, Okla., where he also served as pastor in Stigler, Okla. Following graduation, he was called to a church in San Bernadino, Calif. After serving with several churches in southern California and some time spent with a church in Las Vegas, the Sales' moved to Washington, where they have pastored for the past 25 years.

Vote 'yes' for Camas schools As a longtime resident of Camas, I want to take just a minute to alert readers to a very important levy election that will occur in early February. During this holiday season and a busy New Year, it might be easy for residents to look past this election that is so important to our schools and their continued track record of excellence.

BIA joins the Community Partnership Initiative to help seniors

The Building Industry Association's Remodeler's Council has partnered with CDM Long-Term Care Services' "Community Partnership Initiative to provide assistance to Clark County seniors. This month members of the Remodeler's Council pooled its resources, including materials and donated labor, to replace a back porch and steps for a senior citizen receiving in-home care services from CDM. The old porch had become a safety hazard and could no longer be used.

Squeeze & Grind owners purchase building

A Washougal couple who purchased Squeeze & Grind 1 1/2 years ago recently bought the building that their business is in. Jeramy and Marcie Wilcox bought 537 N.E. Cedar St., in November, from Albina Bank, of Portland. The purchase price was $220,000. The bank had foreclosed on the property.

School notes for Dec. 18, 2012

Camas resident makes dean's list Lisa Nicholson has been named to the annual dean’s list at the University of Washington. To be named to the annual list, a student must earn quarterly dean's list honors for three of four quarters. Nicholson is from Camas.

WHS performers earn honors

Several Washougal High School band and choir students were recently accepted into the annual National Association for Music Educator's All-Northwest/All-State honor groups. This is the largest combined group of students from WHS to qualify.

Parents, communities can help stop teen drinking tragedies

The recent deaths of three Washington teens--a 14-year-old Bellingham girl, a 17-year-old boy in Shoreline, and an 18-year-old Washington State University student --remind us just how dangerous alcohol is for minors. As parents and co-chairs of the Washington State Coalition to Reduce Underage Drinking our hearts go out to the families and friends who are suffering these terrible losses. Before we lose another child, grandchild, student, and friend, let's ask ourselves what we as adults are doing to encourage or discourage underage drinking.
