Library hosts Hunger Games party The Camas Public Library is hosting a party for teens to celebrate the debut of the best-selling book “The Hunger Games” as a major Hollywood movie. The party will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 22. Teens in seventh- through 12th-grade are invited to come to the library for an afternoon of themed activities.

Maguire is semi-finalist in scholarship contest

James Maguire, a senior at Washougal High School, is a semi-finalist in the 43rd annual national Washington Crossing Foundation Scholarship competition. The awards are granted to high school seniors for best all-around presentation about why they are planning a career in government service. According to a press release, the semi-finalists represent, "The most talented and accomplished of our country's young leaders." The foundation is located in Bristol, Bucks County, Pa.

Whooping cough cases surface in Clark County

The Clark County Health Department recently announced that several cases of whooping cough in area schools and other community settings have been reported. Whooping cough, also known as pertussis, is a highly contagious disease spread through the air by coughing.

The former AAA Pawn store site, at 1834 Main St., in downtown Washougal, will become the second location for Amnesia Brewing. Crews from R & H Construction are demolishing the interior of the 5,500-square foot space.

Microbrewer will expand to Washougal

A microbrewer located in North Portland is planning to open this summer in Washougal. An announcement was made Saturday that Amnesia Brewing will expand to 1834 Main St., in downtown Washougal. The 5,500-square-foot site was formerly occupied by the AAA Pawn shop. The new facility will include a tasting room, pub and brewhouse. "The expansion will allow Amnesia to greatly increase their production capacity and expand their customer base and distribution," said Adam Taylor, a representative with Lone Wolf Development.

Camas students work as legislative pages

Rep. Ann Rivers (R-La Center) hosted two Camas students as pages this legislative session in Olympia. Both students were at the state Capitol from Feb. 13 to 17.
