Washougal teachers took to the picket lines this week, postponing the start of the 2018-19 school year by at least two days.

The Camas Education Association voted to strike if there is no tentative agreement for educator salaries by the Sept. 4, the first day of school. The teachers union and district are entering mediation through the Public Employment Relations Commissions (PERC) and are awaiting a mediator assignment before negotiations can resume.

Camas teachers are the latest Southwest Washington educators to say they will strike if their union and school district cannot reach a tentative agreement on salary schedules by Sept. 4, the scheduled first day of school.
