Clark College president to deliver ‘State of the College’ address

Nearing its 80th anniversary, Clark College is also creating a plan for the future. What the college will look like in the year 2020 and will it will serve the region will be the focus of the 2013 State of the College Address by Clark College President Robert K. Knight on Thursday.

The event, which is free and open to the public, begins at 11 a.m. in the Gaiser Student Center on the college’s main campus, 1933 Fort Vancouver Way, Vancouver.

Doors will open at 10:30 a.m. and seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Driving directions and parking maps are available at www.clark.edu/maps.

Following the address, guests will be invited to join Knight on a visit to Clark’s new basic education site, located in the “T” Building on the west side of Fort Vancouver Way.

Students, faculty, staff and guests are invited to bring nonperishable food donations to the State of the College address.

For the fourth consecutive year, Clark Student Ambassadors will collect the donations for the Share Vancouver Backpack Program. Donations can also be taken to the college’s Welcome Center from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday.

The Welcome Center is located on the lower level of the Penguin Union Building.

EWU releases dean’s list

Several local students earned dean’s list honors at Eastern Washington University.

To qualify, a student must take a least 12 credit hours and earn a GPA of 3.5 or better.

Students include Patrick Scheel of Washougal; and Haley Adamson, Ashley Gjerswold, Kristina Griffee, Julia Houle, Danika Jones, Alison Owens, Taylor Swoverland, Renee Valenter and Melissa Williams, all of Camas.

YWCA Clark County offers scholarships

YWCA Clark County is offering three Young Women of Achievement academic scholarships, each for $1,500.

Scholarship applicants must be female students enrolled in the 12th grade of a Clark County high school. Applicants will be evaluated on their demonstration of the following: Outstanding achievement in volunteer and school leadership roles, community involvement in addition to school-required community service, and serving as a role model (based on reference).
