Officials must act fast to protect environment

I call on all of our public representatives, including Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, to take prompt action to protect our precious environment.

The list of initiatives taken or proposed by President Donald Trump to dismantle environmental protection is too long to itemize here. They include: weakened fuel economy vehicle standards, repeal of Clean Power Plan, withdrawal from Paris climate agreement, weakened rule for how refineries monitor pollution in nearby communities, weakening the Endangered Species Act, revoking a rule that prevented coal companies from dumping mining debris into local streams, stopping payment to the United Nations Green Climate Fund, weakening rules on drilling in our coastal waters and the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and eliminating a proposed rule that required mines to prove they could pay to clean up future pollution.

Future generations will pay the price for these misguided policy initiatives.
