The Downtown Camas Association (DCA) will host a new event in downtown Camas this weekend in an effort to help connect Camas-Washougal community members with local volunteer opportunities.

The 2024 Volunteer Summit, set for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 9, inside the Fuel Medical lobby at 314 N.E. Birch St., in downtown Camas, will provide an avenue for individuals to learn about and engage with a variety of service-oriented organizations based in Camas and Washougal.

Attendees interested in volunteerism will be able to meet with 14 unique local organizations in an open-house format.

DCA organizers said the goal of the event is to “foster meaningful connections and help make engagement opportunities easier between organizations and potential volunteers.”

People of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to attend. Employers that offer corporate volunteer initiatives are also welcome.

Organizations participating in the inaugural Volunteer Summit include: Camas DECA, Camas Friends and Community Resource Center, Camas Farmer’s Market, Camas Ivy League, Camas Lion’s Club, Camas Parks and Recreation, Camas Public Library, Camas Washougal Community Chest, Downtown Camas Association, EatWell Camas Community Garden, Impact-Camas Washougal, Read NW, Refuel Washougal, Rotary Club of Camas-Washougal and Unite! Washougal

“Volunteers are the life-blood of many local Camas/Washougal organizations, and we often hear from people that they’re not sure how to get involved with volunteering in their community,” said Jan Carter, volunteer coordinator for the DCA and the Camas Farmer’s Market. “This event will serve as a platform for individuals to find an organization that shares their passion, and how they can make an impact right here in Camas-Washougal. We are so excited to see people with diverse experiences and skills begin to build relationships with organizations in need.”

Cedar Street Bagel Co. will provide complimentary refreshments and the Camas-Washougal Parent Co-Op Preschool will provide a free children’s craft activity and Lego table.

The DCA, a 501c3 nonprofit that works year-round to strengthen and promote downtown Camas through partnerships, events, beautification and historic preservation projects, public art engagement, economic development, advocacy and tourism functions, organized the 2024 Volunteer Summit.
