The Camas-Washougal Salvation Army has kicked off its annual Red Kettle campaign, which provides funds for social services such as food, shelter, disaster assistance and addiction recovery programs.
The CWSA launched the campaign with its third annual Red Kettle Kickoff event, held Nov. 24 at Washougal High School’s Fishback Stadium. The event featured two teams — football players and staff members from Camas and Washougal high schools, as well as Camas city councilor Tim Hein and Washougal Mayor David Stuebe — competing against each other to pass or kick the most footballs into a red kettle, with a trophy going to the winning squad.
The Washougal team posted a 25-19 victory, avenging its 2024 loss at Camas High School’s Carden Field.
Red kettles are in front of Safeway (Washougal and Camas), Bi-Mart (Washougal), Walgreens (Camas), the Camas Post Office, QFC Riverstone Marketplace (192nd Avenue) and Walmart (192nd Avenue) through Wednesday, Dec. 24. To volunteer as a bell ringer, visit RegisterToRing.com.
The fundraiser collected a record-setting $101,547, the most ever raised in a season and a 10 percent-increase over 2023, for the CWSA in 2024.
The CWSA is also gearing up for several other holiday-related initiatives, including its annual Christmas Food Box and Angel Tree assistance distribution (Friday, Dec. 19) and its Angel Tree program. Last year the CWSA assisted 98 families with holiday food and/or gifts, with 195 children participating in the Angel Tree program and receiving gifts.
